FAQ's BY STUDENTS

  1. How do you get started?

Visit our Buy Hours page and choose your college, your course, then your tutoring package. The SuperStudent Package price is automatically added to your total. You can use our secured merchant service. Then, give us your information. Go online to start taking the assessments. In the meantime, we contact all the appropriate tutors and send you the best tutors for the job, according to subject, location, and schedule. After the first session, please let us know if you had a good experience or want a different tutor. You contact the tutor from then on for further appointments.

  2. How can you benefit from using a tutoring service over a private tutor?

The answer is you have a choice. A service provides options; you can choose another tutor if the first one doesn't work out. Good services usually provide assessments and tutoring support options, and they usually have a refund policy. Plus, with many tutors to choose from, we can offer services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  3. I've never had a tutor before, why should I get one now?

If you don't have time to study or just need some help on homework, why waste hours studying when a tutor can fix the problem, fast.

  4. What is the guarantee for your tutoring?

If you buy at least the 15 or 25 hour package, and our assessment package, we guarantee your investment with at least a B for the Platinum Plan and at least a C for the Gold Plan. Students who do not get the grade we guarantee, we tutor them for free next term (same or other class). We believe so strongly in our study skills and tutoring we are willing to guarantee grades. You must follow our advice, use your hours, take our assessments, and keep trying. If you still don't make the grade, you get a WHOLE free semester.

  5. Who are your tutors?

Professional tutors, graduate students and undergraduate students from your school, and sometimes licensed teachers. We look for tutoring experience first rather than a certificate or degree. Typically, our tutors are 20-40 years old, less likely to be "burnt out," relate well to students, are good role models, and are eager to help. For college students, why get a licensed K-12 teacher when a fellow college tutor is better? Our tutors took the course, know the professor, wrote the papers, and saved their tests. They may teach the class.

  6. How long are the tutoring sessions?

Sessions must go at least two hours per visit for traveling, one hour for on campus tutoring. Sessions can go 1.5 hours for in-home tutoring if the tutor is willing, but the tutor must get approval from the service first.

  7. Where do you do the tutoring?

In-home or on a local college campus. In-home requires a travel fee paid directly to the tutor. On campus tutoring is done by university tutors for students of all ages. There is no travel fee for college campuses because there is no travel time; tutors and students are already there every day.

  8. Are your tutors good role models?

Yes, but more importantly they are great tutors. They can encourage their K-12 students to go to college and can even help them figure out how to apply. What they are best at is getting you to understand and do well.

  9. Are your tutors good teachers?

Absolutely. They are experienced in one-on-one "teaching." Tutoring is not teaching; it is a special ability and requires practice. Not all teachers possess this ability. Our tutors know their subjects, but they also know how to explain things well to an individual. This is why a teaching license is not as important to us.

  10. Why are you so inexpensive for in-home or on campus tutoring?

Tutoring services often have high overhead: a center, major advertising campaigns, and a full professional office staff. We have very little overhead, no centers, no national advertising campaign, and our tutors do not all have degrees. But that's only part of the story. What we won't do is over charge students when our main competitor is the free or low cost tutoring services of many campuses. Finally, we may be new to your state and city, so perhaps we just don't know better. Despite our low rates, we have some of the best tutors you can find.

  11. What do you mean by a holistic approach to tutoring?

We treat you as a whole person. Often, poor grades are caused by other factors: stress, poor diet, low self-esteem, or lack of time or efficiency when studying. Our assessments are unique; we find the causes of learning problem and cure them. We teach you how to eat right and exercise, but we also teach you how to incorporate them into your learning process. Study breaks are good but why not take a break doing push-ups or sit-ups?

  12. Do you give refunds for advance purchases?

Yes. Refunds are allocated after we determine the number of hours used and convert the discounted rate back to a non-discounted hourly rate. Because of the advance purchase discounts, the hourly rate is more per hour than a discounted plan. Plus, at most you get back 50% of unused hours. Please see our Terms for more details.

  13. Do you tutor K-12?

Yes. For K-6 we generally have licensed teachers available or college tutors with experience tutoring children. For grades 7-12, a college tutor is just as good. Furthermore, our focus on nutrition and exercise is ideal for all students for all ages in any industry. Often we educate parents along with students, especially for students K-6.

  14. Can I be a promoter for the group?

All tutors are encouraged to post flyers, but you can also be hired as a campus promoter. You can be just a tutor, just a promoter, or both. You can also be an Operations Manager and later we will offer franchise opportunities.

  15. Why do you charge a traveling fee?

The small travel fee of $5 helps pay for travel expenses like gas and time. For long traveling times, we require the tutor to stay at least two hours though the hourly rates are the same. The fee is paid directly to the tutor.

    Top

  16. Why do you have a minimum weekly use of hours?

The two hour minimum applies only for traveling appointments and weekly minimums apply only to the guaranteed plans. We believe the minimum requirements motivate students to stay on schedule and prevents students from skipping several weeks and then still expecting a good grade.

  17. Does All American SuperTutors have online tutoring support?

Yes, we have an entire program in our membership area for online tutoring.

  18. Why did you start online tutoring?

Research shows that current technology makes online tutoring as effective as in person tutoring, if done properly. We use cutting edge technology, and tutors who specialize in online tutoring. In order to help the most people we use online tutoring service for small cities or when we cannot place a student with a one-on-one tutor.

  19. Why do you have such a unique program while other services seem to offer fewer incentives?

Our philosophy is "great tutors for low prices." Still, some of our innovations are beginning to appear in other places, and for that we are flattered. Then again, some of our methods or so unorthodox, no one would dare try them. For example, we use politically incorrect memory tricks few services would dare use, and they work very well.

  20. Do you offer uncommon, common sense for passing a class?

I am glad you asked. All American SuperTutors tutors go where no tutoring service has gone before; we try EVERYTHING to get students to do well. For some students in college, adult students, they cannot pass a class even on the fourth try. One college student (age 22) was a prodigious drinker and suffered serious test anxiety. He'd do well in the tutoring session, then fail the tests. For him, we recognized that he drinks when he studies. So, we told him to drink for the test. He took our advice to the extreme, partied all night and took the test drunk. He got an A on the exam and passed the class. The moral of the story? Lesson learned? Take tests under the same conditions as you study! Of course, we don't recommend alcohol for minors, but the same strategy applies. We can do the same for you!

  21. What role do you think "political correctness" has in education?

When it comes to teaching in K-12 school, lots. When it comes to teaching college students, some. When it comes to study skills, little. Our memorization and study skills techniques, none. We teach students to think outside the box, to harness their creativity to double or even triple their memories, with half the effort. Our SuperStudent Package assessment for study skills is one of a kind. All tutors are required to take our assessments and students who buy 25 or more hours and take the assessments are guaranteed an A or B grade (or it's free)!

  22. How long before my first appointment?

We aim for 24 hours, but sometimes it can take two days, and occasionally three. Same day appointments are more likely, even within two hours. It depends on how fast the tutor or tutors can return a phone call or email.

  23. Are same day appointments more expensive?

While some services feel burdened by short term notice of tutoring requests, we pride ourselves on fast delivery. In fact, we specialize in cramming-style, high pressure tutoring. You pay no additional fee for same scheduling. Don't depend on availability, however, so give us as much notice as possible.

  24. Do I have to pay all of the money up front?

Advance purchase plans must be paid in advance. You can make "payments" two ways. First, sign up for a smaller plan and then upgrade, paying the difference, before your hours run out.

  25. Do you accept Credit Cards?

Yes, all types of payment are possible, and you can look forward to our service offering the use of paypal and merchant services.

  26. Do you only tutor at the nearby campus?

We do both tutoring in-home and at our location (your local college campus).

  27. Do your tutors work weekends?

Yes. Our tutors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We could even see you at 3 am on Monday morning for that last minute cram for a Monday final.

  28. What if I want a different tutor?

Call or email us and we will send you another tutor. Don't worry, the tutor is not in any trouble. Sometimes personality conflicts arise and we completely understand. There is no processing fee exchanges.

  29. I've got a huge test in 2 days, will tutoring benefit me?

Yes, and it is best to see the cramming specialists (that's us.) A single session the day of the test probably is not the ideal, but if you have two days, we can do much. Do not wait until 3 am! Get a good rest. We recommend you cram as much as you can as if the test were the day before the day of the actual test, and then spend the last day reviewing instead of learning new material.

  30. I've always been really bad at math, and I have this one class left to be able to move up in my company, can you help me pass my required math class?

Yes. Our tutors will help you get on with your career. Time is money and we can save you from wasting it by having to re-take the class. Be prepared to work your butt off, but with guidance. We can show you exactly what you need to know, and what you don't!

FAQ's BY TEST TAKERS

  1. Will you help me cheat on my tests?

No. But with our help you won't have to. We can teach you how to fake your way to partial credit.

  2. Do you guarantee better grades on tests?

Absolutely. We don't just guarantee a B or C grade for a class (depending on the plan), we also guarantee you will pass a standardized exam. If you don't pass the first time, we tutor for free for the next try. This is not a gimmick. If you do what we tell you and take our assessments, you will pass.

  3. Can you help me to get a better grade on the SAT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, DAT, PMAT, or other tests?

Yes! Many of our tutors specialize in Standardized Tests, especially the ACT and SATs. We even have specific tutors for the different sections on the test.

  4. Can you teach how to take tests?

Yes, every type of test out there, even oral tests. One of the most important things any student can work on is how to take a test. We teach all the typical strategies and tricks.

  5. Can you teach how to use my calculator?

Yes, you would be surprise how often this is the main reason a student fails an exam.

  6. How can I best prepare for a Standardized Test?

Give yourself many months to study for it, buy a test prep book, get a tutor immediately, and work through the book. If you have any doubts about passing, get a tutor the first time you take it and pass the first time!

FAQ's BY FOREIGN LANGUAGE STUDENTS

  1. Are your foreign language tutors from their respective countries?

As often as possible, yes, because you learn a language better from a person who lived there, knows the culture, and has an accent. Plus, you can learn slang at the same time. No one we know says, "Excuse me, could you pass the butter, please?" Most people say "Gimme da butter, please" and point, or the equivalent in their language. We recommend you get tutors from several countries to pick up the most current expressions.

  2. Is it hard to understand your foreign language tutors because of their native dialect. If they are speaking English, then we hope they are hard to understand. The best foreign language teachers are the ones that rarely speak English while they teach. However, some of our tutors speak perfect English, because they are also college students. Oh well, nobody's perfect.

  3. Do you tutor ESL?

Yes, we tutor English as a Second Language. We also teach AESL, American English as a Second Language, with a session on slang. After all, Americans don't exactly speak perfect English to each other, now do we?

FAQ's BY TUTOR APPLICANTS

  1. How does this work?

Read our Terms and apply online at our jobs page. If your application is accepted, we will publish your biography anonymously using your first name and a chosen nickname. Students can pick their tutor or request a tutor to be chosen for them. We contact you before a student pays to give you "heads up" that they are coming and then contact you again when they have made a purchase. We aim for fast placement, so watch your emails or return your calls. You call the student to make the appointment and for all the following appointments. Tutors are trained to use our study skills and paychecks are mailed once a month. Make sure we have your correct address and full name!

  2. Are you hiring?

We are always looking for talented college student tutors and licensed teachers to join our group of independent contractors. And, we are growing so fast we need more tutors to meet demand. Apply soon, or even sooner!

  3. What is the average stay of a tutor with your service?

Some tutors stay for a semester and then come back after a break. Some tutors have been with us since the beginning. It is not likely they will stay more than 5 years because of graduation, but now they can join us in another state if they move.

  4. What if I have no prior tutoring experience?

Everyone has to start somewhere. If you are a good communicator, know and enjoy your subject, like to help others, and have time in your schedule, you will be a great tutor. Come, join us.

  5. What if I have another job?

Tutoring allows you to make your own schedule. You tell us when you are available, we'll find you clients. If you have another job, or two, just be available for at least one student. If you work for another tutoring service, don't worry, we don't mind. Just let us know who they are and remember, they probably do mind (we won't tell).

    Top

  6. How much can I expect to work in a week?

Your load depends on how many students you take. Some tutors take many clients and work a lot. Some tutors only want one client and that's enough for them. We ask that you are available at least two hours per week per client.

  7. How much do you pay per hour?

Your hourly rate depends on your Level or Tier, and this increases each semester. Apply today and we'll discuss this when we need you.

  8. I'm pretty rusty, can I still tutor?

As long as we have your permission to use our new Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrophotometer to measure your "tutor aura" we'll give you a chance. Okay, just kidding, as long as you pass a few steps, and if necessary provide a demonstration of a particular topic, you are in.

  9. What if I am not a certified teacher in different state?

Good for you, because no one else is either. No, really, if you have a degree in education, you are welcome to apply. Tutoring experience is more desired, however.

  10. What if I am an international student, can I tutor?

Yes, school officials permit you to work 20 hours, but you can check with your college department to be sure. You must have a social security number.
